waiting for the bus
I had to take our van down to the next town to be serviced. The van is 13 years old and we don't drive it all that much anymore, but it is fitted out for my husband's wheelchair so I needed to tend to it.
Since the town was 45 minutes away, I didn't want to ask a friend to pick me up and bring me home. - so I took the bus. I hadn't been on a bus since I was in my 20's and I was pleasantly surprised by the ride. Even though we live in a town as compared to the suburbs, the area is not densely populated, so the bus was not jammed with people, which had been my last experience. The price was $1.25. I admit I had a bus bias, thinking it was for the indigent, but not any more. I think if there was an advertising campaign showing the convenience and ease of use, more people would use the system there fore getting more cars off the roads.
The days of cute old fashioned bus stations are over in this area of Florida; open air and uncomfortable benches is the MO, at least on my route. It was strange how the station was so very far off the beaten path. I don't know how people got there to take the bus because it was not easy to get to. A service person from the van place drove me, and I was very grateful.
I will be taking it again next week to pick up the van after she is all fixed up, and am looking forward to the ride.
