The Gobbins cliff path

Another walking option that was closed last year, but has reopened now, is The Gobbins Cliff path... a feat of building and engineering that first opened in 1902. The main image and the extras show some of the bridges along the way.  The path fell into disrepair after WW2.  Then - as tourism slowly came back to N Ireland in the wake of the Good Friday agreement, with the Troubles fading - an ambitious renovation programme brought it back into use in 2016.

The walk offers great views over the sea and the cliffs, along with plenty of cardio-type exercise: steep steps and slopes, narrow pathways, and those elegant bridges.

After all last week's damp weather, it's turned warmer now.   There was mist on the hills this morning, but the sun broke through later on. All being well, it should be dry for the rest of the week.

I spoke to Jack, Marianna and Frieda via WhatsApp video this afternoon; they'll be heading home from Greece on Friday.  They're looking well and relaxed, and Frieda is chatting away in Greek. Jack, following all the news from Afhanistan, is now itching to get back to his job with the Refugee Council. He's hoping that the RC will have some involvement in supporting new Afghan refugees; they are already working with many Afghan individuals and families. Much depends on who the govt awards its latest contracts to.... don't get me started on that... the track record is hardly inspiring.
