Old Railway Bridge
This is an old railway bridge over the canal Nieuwevaart in Amsterdam. It led to the Veemarkt, the Cattle Market, founded end 19th century. Livestock was transported by trains over this bridge to the market and was traded. There was also a abattoir on the market.
It was a large and important market for trading livestock. Nowadays it is a industrial area, with all kinds of small businesses. One of the premisses is still a stable, for the hors drawn coaches that drive around in Amsterdam and its parks.
The plan is to demolish this bridge as a part of a plan for streamlining 6 bridges for continuous ship traffic to consort Zeeburg, which will cost an incredible amount of Euro 400.000,- !
