The hike that did not happen
Oh dear, best laid plans and all that. We had planned today's hike so carefully, made our packed lunches last night when we got back from dinner out, set the alarm for an early rise....and then two things went wrong. Poor Inca woke up feeling awful with the same tummy bug that I had two days ago (and Gavin had two days before me although with much milder symptoms), and the weather did not look good.
Being the trooper that she is Inca said she still wanted to come on the hike as she was not feeling that bad, and the forecast was for rain coming in at lunchtime so we hoped the morning would be fine. We met the mini bus at 8.15am and set off, going up the twists and turns of the Fluela Pass to get to our drop off point to start the walk. Two things happened - that twisty ride only made Inca feel worse, and the bad weather came in and as we stepped out the bus the drizzle turned into an icy heavy rainfall. We set off but within minutes Inca was sick, Gavin and I were so cold and wet my fingers turned blue, and Xena (who admittedly is the biggest wimp in canine history) was so miserable with her tail stuck under her bum, shivering and shaking with cold and sticking to our legs to get some kind of cover from the rain, that we decided to abandon the walk.
We needed to get Inca back home and fortunately there was a local bus that was due at the start point in about 40 minutes. Meriel and Luke decided to carry on with the walk but the rest of us stood in the pouring rain hoping that we had read the bus timetable correctly and that the bus was coming - it did and on time as one would expect from a Swiss bus! A bus back into Davos, then a train back to Klosters. Poor Inca managed to hold it together until we got home when she had a hot shower and went to bed.
These images of the scenery in Fluela Pass were taken while we were waiting for the bus, it was so cold I was taking photos to distract myself from the cold. When we got back to Klosters there was sunshine! Luke and Meriel had a brilliant hike and the weather cleared up. We now plan to do this walk later in the week.
The weather remained bright with some sunshine and clouds. We had a walk around the village where I took the photo of the flowers at a hotel in the village (see extra).
Now it is nearly supper time and Inca is already feeling much better. Tomorrow Adam and Pip arrive :) but on Tuesday Tommy and Inca depart :(
