Skeletal remains

I went for a walk around Holmwood Common today, a 650 acres site owned by the National Trust.  It rained / drizzled for almost the whole walk, which was not what was forecast!
I was struck by the outline remains of some sort of creeper that had lived on this tree trunk.  The creeper is dead and gone, but its skeleton remains.
