2 years ago we took 3 rescue hens. We are now down to 1 so will be picking up another 2 on Saturday.
Commercially, all laying hens are slaughtered at the age of 72 weeks, when their production drops slightly. Their carcasses are worth very little and are usually sold for dog food, baby food or cheap, processed pies etc.
Fresh Start for Hens is a non profit organisation who look to rehome thousands of hens per year.
