A Giant has Fallen

Beside the lake and the mooring place for our row boat there lives a giant. The largest Ash tree I have ever seen. Considering the slow growth of trees here due to the cold I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at its age. Three weeks ago the right hand bough snapped off and hit terra firma. Then when we went down there today the entire left hand side has done likewise, taking with it a younger ash as if fell. The giant is in a sorry state and I guess the fungi are relishing the recycling opportunities now open to them. Surely the main stem cannot last much longer.
This is a reminder of the strength of the wind here lately.
