never to old to learn

well you learn something new everyday.

Had a chiropractic visit today in Staines-on-Thames (to give it its new posh name) and afterwards went down to the river to see what what worth blipping. I have walked past the Town Hall many times and this is the first time I have noticed this plaque. I guess it is because when you are looking at taking a photograph you look at buildings in a different way.

Staines was once a Roman settlement from AD43. It provided an important river crossing on the Silchester to London road. It was mentioned in the Doomsday day book as being the property of westminster Abbey. it was a coaching station with many coaching Inns, hence the Trafalgar way.
Bringing it more up to date it was a large producer of Linoleum and the Lagonda car factory was based her too. In 1972 it became known for the worst air disaster in the UK when a passenger plane came down on Staines Moor killing all on board.
