Dunwich Heath
Lovely 12 mile walk on Sunday with friends, starting in Dunwich, an old Suffolk village with an interesting past. In days of yore (Anglo Saxon times) the village was the capital of the Kingdom of the East Angles with one of the busiest international ports, similar in size to 14th Century London. It's decline began in 1286 with a series of bad weather events over the next 18 months which claimed most of the village. Most of the village including the port was lost to the sea and now lies about 1/4 mile offshore under water. We walked across the Heathland, close to the beach and back round through Dunwich Forest.
Backblipped on 17 Aug 21.
