Orkney at its Best

Out in the hills, out in the hills, more hills, dry hills, the end of our ills, no more pills, no film just stills.  It might be fizzy but it's still water.  From Hoy Pier, through Rackwick Valley and up Rummin to the Glen, sky pure blue since we don't ken when.  Round to the Old Man up Scarsa brae, pass the Geo of the Sow, onto Bre Brough and St John's Head - vertical cliff of 1258 feet.

We veered right to visit the Sui Fea trig point and didn't dip down into Back Saddles and avoided the sheer rock face of Enegars.  I found part of a WWII crashed Liberator, l think I'm the first to see it; looks like a hydraulic ram.  Photographed for the Hoy Heritage Archive.

Visibility was so good we saw Sule Skerry Lighthouse, not seen it for about 5 years; it's often not visible being a skerry 32 miles west of Stromness.

On the Cuilags we had a lot of Orkney at our feet; certainly the whole of Graemsay.

Fiveteen miles bouncing in the heather, fiveteen miles of glorious weather.

Days like this are few.The sun is over Nicaragua when l tumble into bed.

We know we will never reach the horizon.
