My Queen of the Night

One of my most unusual cacti is this night flowering Gymnocalicium.

The flowers open in the night and for one night only. They are a horticultural one night stand you might say.  These flower buds have been growing 
for about six weeks. If we happen to go away for a couple of nights it is easy to miss the event.
It will not surprise you to know that they are pollinated by moths!

In fact I almost missed this one as the flower is beginning to close.

Much excitement but now we have to wait a year for next time.
