A forb
I was excited to discover the word 'forb' (a herbaceous flowering plant that is not a grass). This is yesterday's plant, showing the leaves and buds. As Kate told me, it is a soapwort or saponaria, in fact Saponaria officinalis (link to Wikipedia), slightly toxic, used to make a form of soap or in tahini or halva, among other things. From the leaves alone I could not identify it, but even the flowers were difficult. It is also known as Bouncing Bet (not to be confused with the WWII German landmine).
