The long hike to Strela Pass
Last night we went out for supper at a local mountain restaurant that has fantastic views over the village. When we arrived we were surprised to see that the terrace was full, with everyone seated outside as it was such a beautiful evening, and there was a live three man band performing. The lead singer was Italian and had a beautiful voice - just as well he had a great voice as we did not know the songs he sang as they were mainly in Italian, but he did do a few English numbers too. The rest of the customers at the restaurant all seemed to know his music and it turned out to be a fun evening. It was so pleasant sitting outside and watching the sun set down the valley.
This morning we went on another long hike. Not as steep as yesterday's hike, but much longer - we walked 28,300 steps, which was about 20 km with an elevation of 291m. We got the gondola to the top of the mountain and then did the panorama walk above Davos around the mountain to the Strela Pass. The path was quite narrow at times and it was annoying how many cyclists came past when we had to step off the path. With the increase in extreme mountain biking the paths have definitely deteriorated since cyclists and hikers share the same paths. In this image the path is very wide, it got much narrower after this. We saw so many wild flowers, I love the thistles, bellflowers, gentians and I was delighted to find, for the first time, edelweiss.
Last time we were at the Strela Pass mountain hut it was very small and served typical Swiss food like cheese and cold meat platters. We were very pleased today to see that they have extended their menu and even offered vegan options and gluten free options! (Inca was pescatarian but after her vet work experience at the dairy farm has become vegan) We had a light lunch there and then did the steep walk down to Davos, where we caught the train back home. Xena loved her day but was so tired, she could not keep her eyes open on the train.
