Hospital visit

A long awaited visit to the hospital today to have my prostate measured in preparation for surgery to remove parts of it.

A lack of traffic meant that I was very early arriving, I was then late going in to see the consultant. They had a new ultrasound machine and neither he nor the nurse had used it before, so another consultant had to come in to assist. This is a little different to the baby ultrasounds as the probe has to go internally. Before that the consultant did a manual probe and said that the prostate was small but hard (previous checks have all been said to be not particularly enlarged).

The prostate volume came back as 64.7ml, which is roughly double what it should be. The surgery would be expected to take between 1.5 and 2 hours, though they were very cautious in giving any idea of waiting times. The current waiting list for the HoLED procedure is 3-4 months, I was put on the waiting list in May, so in theory I should get the surgery in the next month or two, but with the caution expressed I am not holding my breath.

No time to get out and catch an elephant today, so a weed in a very windy garden. The border on the southern side of my garden is in almost permanent shade and I have struggled getting some plants to grow there, so as the bees seem to like this, and it is not unattractive it can stay.
