Common Red Soldier Beetle

This morning I thought I’d have an early wander around Belfairs Woods with my macro lens while the wee beasties were still drowsy. I had to go back upstairs to fetch the insect repellent (recommended to me by blipper Sheol) and then got my shoes on and set off. Being me, I still managed to leave the aforementioned insect repellent on the side at home but trundled off round the woods in my shorts. Bad move… I have a few of what I assume are tick bites on my lower legs and they itch like hell along with the bottom of the left leg being red and swollen. Drugs are being administered but I don’t fancy my chances of restful sleep tonight. I won’t make that mistake again!
