Pie Cock
My Dear Princess and Dear Friends,
It was not a good start to the day.
My train stopped at Paekakariki - the first stop down the line from Paraparaumu. It is known to locals as "Pie Cock".
My train waited and waited there. Then a bloke came on the tannoy saying they had been told to return to Waikenae, the beginning of the line.
Fair enough. Me and the other passengers waited for the train to go backward. But instead the crew got out and effed off.
Oh wait... is THAT what they mean by "they" were told. The crew. The train wasn't going ANYWHERE. After ten minutes I decided to call a taxi, but just happened to bump into railway staff who said buses were coming.
Ok.
To be fair, they seemed as in the dark as the rest of us.
So anyway, we waited and waited for buses.
And waited and waited and waited and waited and waited.
Finally THIS showed up. As you can see, it is NOT a bus. It is an 8-seater airport shuttle.
It was at this point that a train arrived, heading for Waikenae. I thought, "Eff it, I'll take it." I cancelled my meetings and went home.
And that's where the day turned around. Because I had a lovely day working from home. I even took a little walk around to Tiger's and we had a lovely half hour sitting and laughing together in the sun over lunchtime.
I also had some fun online meetings. They are always stimulating and interesting. I know talking about speakers, microphones, wall brackets and video conferencing cameras doesn't SOUND like fun. But trust me, I'm now really getting into this stuff.
Of course, this didn't stop me pulling faces at Fazzy, and pretending that my grumpy tuatara was a giant dinosaur by putting him in front of the laptop camera.
I'm back in the office tomorrow. But for today I'm glad I didn't get on that shuttle. Staying home was fun.
S.
