Starting the cattle pen and loading chutes
A few days ago I stained all of the strip wood and the laser cut sheets for the S scale model of a cattle pen and loading ramp(s). It is a Banta kit bought long ago - of course. Looks like complete directions as well as isometric blowups of the assemblies, and even a DVD disk with loads of photos of the finished product. All will be super helpful.
It is based on a pen and chute at Cimeron in Colorado and looks very similar to photos in my books of the pen and chutes at Dolores. Close enough!
It has a double level loading chute - so it was able to load sheep into the bi-level stock cars - not sure how the sheep got selected for the lower level but I can imagine. There is also a single ramp for cattle which went into the one level stock cars. The photo in the blip shows how the author built the pen, and added a second cattle ramp (included). As he said - "life is more than mutton all the time".
At first glance I was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of stick wood and closed the box. After reading the directions several times I think I understand how it goes together. Time will tell - onward tomorrow.
