Pow-wow
Our Ramblers group did a linear walk today, from Moodiesburn to Kirkintilloch, along what is now known as the Strathkelvin Railway Path.
It follows the route of the former Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway, originally used to carry coal from the coal-fields in Lanarkshire to the Forth and Clyde Canal at Kirkintilloch.
Crossing this path is another one, called the Pow-wow (or Bow-wow) path, which has been used to connect the villages of Chryston and Moodiesburn for hundreds of years (according to the attached information board). The information board is topped by the sculpture of a dove (pictured) as it passes close to an area in which there are quite a few doocots, or dovecotes.
