Trail of Dreams
You could hear the fog dripping from the trees. No deer today, and no birds. Just a few hippety-hopping brown rabbits, and a dead fieldmouse with a broken tail, dropped in the middle of the path, presumably by a very hungry raptor. The fog lifted by the time we were coming back down the hill, revealing a solitary blue heron and a nice bunch of friendly black cows. I don't know that I've ever been close enough to a cow to see how badly they are plagued by flies. Poor things kept swishing their tails and tossing their heads, but there's a place in the middle they can't get to, just like that place that itches in the middle of your back. Yah, right there.
