Passata: Round 1

I’ve stopped growing the classic St Marzano passata tomato of Tuscany. The increasingly hot weather leads to a lot of bottom rot. The mice have also been at the crop this year because it is so dry and there is no fruit as the late frost killed the blossom on everything.

A lot of people round here now cover their tomatoes with a shading mesh or grow them in mesh tunnels but I’ve switched to mini plum and oval tomatoes. They still taste pretty good.
