A Breezy Day

Waiting on Childhood OR Motherhood, A Waiting Game

Today was a busy day for me. I had the last photography class for this session to teach today, which lasted about an hour longer than usual. Then I come home to deal with a hungry kid and husband, but first put all my gear away, then clean the kitchen from the breakfast mess and sort out what to do for dinner. Send the kid and husband out to a park to play while I start in on dinner. They come home, I serve dinner, clean up dinner and put the kid in the bath. Somewhere in between all the chaos I'd gotten to watch this interview of the artist Yinka. I had originally set off to watch an interview of Cindy Sherman but the internet sidetrack me. After watching that interview, my own artistic juices started flowing. I haven't worked on any new projects since my son was born (4.5 years ago). I'm always waiting for him to be elsewhere so I can start my own thing. Well, tonight I realized that's never going to happen. So in classic Sally Mann style, I've decided to incorporate my son into my work. Tonight is the first test shot of this future project. This is going to be a project that will take years to complete. A mother is never done waiting for her children to be elsewhere so she can do her own thing. (and in consequence, my laundry will have to figure out how to put itself away)
