Broken Wings

Greeted today by the sight of this injured bird outside. I thought at first it was a starling (all ready to name it Joseph Starling, or Clarice Starling if it turned out to be female). But with the assistance of our good friend Google, I've revised my opinion and I believe it may actually be a fieldfare. None of which changes the fact that its wing is clearly knackered, and it's thus reduced to hopping around aimlessly and hiding under plants when scared.

Attempts to catch it in the hope of helping it proved fruitless (I really am too big to fit under those plants). If it's still around tomorrow, I may try calling the RSPB (if only because someone once told me that the RSPB emergency teams fly in by hang-glider with sirens on their helmets; that, my friends, will make a memorable blip).
