Tiny fish on the sand

This tiny fish (on sand - not pebbles) is only about an inch and a half in length. We saw dozens of them in/beside a stream that runs down to the sea on one of the beaches just north of our hotel on Barra. We spent a happy half hour playing here today, building channels in the sand to help the water on its way.*

On the same walk we 'read the dead bodies' in Borve graveyard and learnt about the sinking of SS Oakcrest in 1940 (six survivors made it to Barra after over a week at sea), checked a standing stone, talked to sheep, observed birds, and made multiple attempts to photograph jelly fish in the surf (none of the output worth blipping).

Back at the hotel we caught up with news of the Olympics, read our books, and played three games of Scrabble (Mr hazelh 'declared' in one). We are now at 5-5 in the Scrabble championship.

*One of the reasons for falling in love with Mr hazelh is his enthusiasm for such activities. I could never persuade my sisters to share my eagerness for seaside civil engineering, so when I found a boyfriend who was just as keen as me to dig on the beach, I was absolutely delighted.

Exercise today: walking 10,890 steps.
