Light Showers

The forecast I looked at suggested a sunny start to the day with the possibility of a few light showers later. Feeling like I've been cycling on the same roads for the last year, E and I had a little adventure exploring the countryside to the east of Leeds. It was one of those days when it felt like things didn't want to go our way. Endless major roadworks kept forcing us off our intended quiet route and on to busy main roads. And then the heavens opened as we cycled into a very slow-moving thunderstorm. It feels like there's no such thing anymore as a light shower!

Waiting it out, very conveniently outside a bakery in Sherburn-in-Elmet, we were witness to the roads soon flooding in dramatic fashion. Eventually, the rain eased enough to allow us to move on, by which time we'd decided to abandon the ride for the train, having been told there was a station just a mile away. The service isn't exactly regular but one turned up literally the moment we arrived at the platform. We arrived back to find E's washing still dry on the line and, out of curiosity, after checking the timetable, the next train after the one we caught wasn't for an hour and a half.
