Pipit on the strandline

The rock pipit is little sparrow-like bird  that hops among rocks and along the strandline searching for sandhoppers and other small life forms amongst the rotting seaweed.

The rotting seaweed is an important habitat and natural resource, a giant compost heap where nature recycles essential nutrients both back into the sea and onto the land. I love its bright variegated colours and textures, like abstract tapestry of the living, the leftover, and life renewed.
