Abbaye de Vaucelles

A contrast between 12th and 18th century architectural styles is evident, as a burst of late afternoon sunshine warms the stones of the Abbaye de Vaucelles, in Picardy about 4km east of the A26, about 10km south of Cambrai.

The abbey wasn't open when we visited, but it made a fine backdrop for a picnic in the car on the first French stage of our trip to visit my brother in the Midi-Pyrenees.
