Neptune’s Staircase
We decided on a visit to Neptune’s Staircase today with a circular walk to Loch Linnhe and back. The looks were built in the early 1800’sas part of the Caledonian Canal, which opened in 1847 and was planned by Thomas Telford. The flight of 8 locks descend a height of 19.5metres in a horizontal distance of 457metres. It takes ninety minutes for a boat to pass through them. No boats to watch today though.
The extra is a shipwreck on the shores of Loch Linnhe with the Nevis mountain range behind.
