The Lion Bridges

The Lion Bridges are 2 of 5 decorative bridges in Milwaukee's Lake Park. The bridges were built by local Milwaukee engineer, Oscar Sanne, between 1893 & 1898. They span the ravines in the park as well as surround the 1854 North Point Lighthouse. Four pairs of sandstone Lions rest at the CORNERS of the approach railings, giving the bridges their name. Milwaukee is fortunate to have a great many beautiful parks, many of them right alongside Lake Michigan. Lake Park, as it's name implies, overlooks Lake Michigan as well, and was designed by noted Landscape Architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed New York City's Central Park, the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, and the grounds of the Vanderbilt's Biltmore Estate.
