Unmasked
Richard was away overnight in London, for a Folklore Society 'goodbye' do for a member of staff who's moving to a new job. I went to meet him at the station at lunchtime today.
Mask-wearing is definitely becoming less common already. R said that many people on the train weren't wearing one; this would worry me more than the lack of them in the better-ventilated space of the station itself.
This was a contrast with Calke Abbey yesterday... I guess the National Trust demographic is predictably quite a cautious one. And it's a contrast with the small independent local shops where we buy quite a lot of food and other household supplies... they have moved over to 'encouraging' mask use, now that they can't require it, and for the moment it is working.
The national picture on Covid infection numbers is confusing, and I know that analyses are being done to try to understand it. There are some indications that a drop in people being prepared to come forward for testing is playing a part in the apparently large drop in cases, though it is not the only factor.
