another day in the life of two sheds

you got snow over there today eh?

how snow covers a multitude of sins
today's sins? -- tarps covering logs that need to be split
and branches that need the sticky blade of the hand saw
and still a mess of maple bark that needs clearing up in front of the sheds
and a wee back yard that needs more time spent
on it
in it
went out today to retrieve one car
came back
too many flashing lights, fire trucks, tow tucks, yanking SUV's out of the ditch
on Rt 28
it was slithery out there even though the plows had been back and forth
still snowing
and right now though it's very quiet here
specially when there's snow
I can hear ... a train ... quite far away, well 8 miles or so
American, plaintive, hooting and hollering trains sound different
than the Royal Scot once did
chuffing past Black Face sheep dotted on the hill.
Now, can also hear, faintly, of the many daily aircraft
way up there
above the thick cloud blanket
maybe what was Continental that's now United
that fly down the Hudson River
to Newark
over melting Greenland and Newfoundland
from Glasgow, or Edinburgh
where there's no more Cornish Pasty place
at the far end of the mezzanine
where you can buy sandwiches
before you have to abandon your cart ~
