Wound up in Wexford

Stapleford

Back at Stapleford Granary for a concert by the Pixels Ensemble.  They chose to present, to a small (but sell out), socially distanced audience, a challenging programme of music by female composers - some of it delightful, some of it quite difficult to listen to.

Here are three of the members preparing to play a delightful Trio by Louise Farrenc - a French composer and pianist born in 1804, who as a professor at the Paris Conservatoire, was an early agitator for equal pay for women.

Prior to this, the ensemble had played a trio for clarinet, violin and piano by Galina Ustvolskaya, a 20th Century Russian composer, which was more challenging to listen to, though very evocative - especially after the clarinettist (Kate Romano) had told us a little about her story.

The members of the Ensemble will be shattered this evening, as they had to repeat the whole programme to a "second sitting" at 8pm.
