The History Lesson

The grandsons enjoy some live history especially if castles, knights and swords are involved.
So today’s outing was to the ruins of Brougham Castle in North Cumbria.

The Castle was founded in the early 13th. Century although it is on a site which had been used by the 
Romans to build a fort over a thousand years earlier. There is a good article in Wikipedia detailing its history.

Great fun was had exploring the remains and climbing up the inner staircases. For those interested I have put several

Following a picnic lunch in the castle grounds a two mile walk took the boys to the remains of a henge where it
Is believed that the charismatic King Arthur had his famous round table.
