Built by Bastards!

St Peter and St Paul Church in Blandford Forum,Dorset.
This church was built after 1731 when a fire destroyed the heart of the town. Two of the leading citizens of the town were the Bastard brothers…William and John, who were architects and builders . The style reflects the ‘vernacular Baroque’ of the new churches built in London in the reign of Queen Anne. The crowning cupola was built pending money for a spire which never materialised!
Unfortunately it was not open so I could not go inside to see what is supposed to be an imposing interior with many original box pews and a convex organ gallery.
