Destination collaboration

Not that it is a shock or anything, but our new way of working is becoming official and from September, my team and I will all be classed as Hybrid or Homeworkers.

In true big company style, there’s been a big hoo-hah about it with numerous surveys, slide decks and webinars. Today it felt like all of that had come to a head, where a meeting with mandatory attendance was held and in our team we talked it all through (not taking the mickey out of the management jargon in the latest slide deck at all) to agree how we were going to work together from here.

In short, we’re already doing what we need to, so we’re just going to keep doing that with visits to the office probably taking place even more infrequently than first thought and only when absolutely necessary.

It means that I should be able to maintain the 50/50 split with the wee ones even when I’m back on the road, which means I can keep collecting them from after-school club and doing the school run in the morning, for which I am genuinely grateful.

In my latest attempt to emulate Hollywood royalty, I am continuing to “date myself” and last night whisked myself off to see Black Widow (which was excellent – Florence Pugh rules). One of the unforeseen perils of dating one’s self is that when one begins to choke on a piece of too-quickly scoffed popcorn, there is no companion to bang you on the back or operate the Heimlich manoeuvre. I was able to circumnavigate this certain undignified death by coughing lots, gargling with Diet Coke and repeatedly trying to clear my throat like a cat coughing up a hairball.

Fortunately, my date was very understanding in forgiving this social faux pas and recommended a switch to wine gums. Whilst this was welcome, I don’t think he earned the right to have his hand on my leg throughout the film.

Oh! The blip! This is a photo of a church tucked away further down the street from the cinema. It’s just been sold, so I’ll have a fiver on some ecclesiastically orientated flats being developed in the very near future.
