Harbour Light
"Harbour Light(s)" is an album by Bruce Hornsby
In my humble opinion it's not one of his best (apart from the track "Long Tall Cool One") and was a departure into "Jazz Odyssey" territory only two albums on from the classic "Scenes From the Southside."
Listening again, I'm struck by the sheer amount of saxophone playing - you never hear sax on any pop-music anymore.
Sax in pop has a habit of implying "The 80's", "Musical Aptitude" and "Helloooo ladies..."
But I've given-up with all that mindless criticism - after-all I like it and surely that's all that matters.
Apart from secret Bruce Hornsby listening I spent a long time championing Country Music (yes, Country Music) in the UK and I found a vast number of people quietly admitting to me that they enjoyed it but would I be so kind as not to tell anyone in case they appeared musically retarded.
I think you can take being cool too far sometimes and miss out on some great stuff.
Chet Baker - he was cool - and he played the trumpet!
Nice...
