Small copper
A mid-afternoon walk up to the Common with MrM, by a very round about route via Kettles Fort and through the woods. Some of the usual paths were too overgrown with bracken to negotiate, way over my head height. Lots of butterflies and moths fluttering around on the moorland, including this Small copper. Several long stops in the woods looking for red squirrels, but there were none to be seen today. MrM had quite a close encounter with a large buzzard though, as it swooped through the trees just above his head!
Hot and humid when we set off, but just over half way the temperature dropped when it started to rain hard. It lasted around 30 minutes, and for some of that time we stood under the shelter on the Common, continuing on our way once it had ease up a bit. Thunder rumbling around as we got home, but it didn't amount to anything.
Off to tackle some of the little jobs I didn't get round to before we left for our walk...
