Big Thistles

I always call these ‘big thistles’ but I’m sure they have a proper name; artichoke, cardoon and cardunculus come to mind but I’m sure someone would know.  Anyway, I’ve always liked them and these rather impressive specimens were growing in the ornamental gardens at the top of the cliffs at Sheringham.
