Tourist Traps
We try to avoid these kind of horrible experiences at all cost. And, to our credit, we can only truly remember one time that we’ve felt totally empty after being in a new place. Until tonight.
We thought that by renting ATVs for sunset we were avoiding the touristy things to do. I mean, when you type Cappadocia into google or Instagram, you see hot air balloons, girls with big gowns draped over cars in the desert, and rooftops covered in Agraba rugs. I’ve never seen an ATV tour listed as a thing to do.
Anyway, the hotel made the pitch to us - promising that they had connections with a trusted company and it would be a great experience. Ittttttt wasn’t.
Steven and I have learned throughout these two years exactly how we like to travel. What we like to do and how we like to do it. You kind of have to learn that pretty quickly when sauntering around the world is your existence. Usually, you get things right, but sometimes, you definitely get them wrong.
We made it back to the room in time to order some dinner that was way over priced. I prefer my $1 lamachun in Istanbul over anything that I ate tonight. Bleh. What an anti climatic day.
We were so excited about Cappadocia, and we’re still excited to try and find the “real” Cappadocia. You know, the one that most tourists don’t care about. The historical parts of it. But, I think today made us realize just how little you can do to be untouristy in a place that’s existence services tourism.
The best part of the night is right now. Laying in bed with Stevie. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Fingers crossed!!
