Drill blip
I salute those who have already identified this as a Hitachi DV18DCL2 for they have a very special talent and I encourage them to keep it to themselves.
It was taken this evening in my newly electrified and cleared out shed. It is a combo drill and driver. Cool. And it stopped working yesterday. Uncool. For I have refused to undertake any diy tasks involving screws without its electo-mechanical support.
The web was pushing me into purchase. It would seem all Hitachi DV18DCL2s in the world are still in working order.
I decided to take it apart. This is an activity which I have undertaken since I was a young boy. I have no idea how things work and, more often than not, I can't get things back again. Springs are particular casualties of this process, they just make a break for liberty as soon as any cover is opened.
It might be kindly called curiosity. It should never be called repair.
My thinking might be that taking it apart, having a look inside, blowing on one or two things, saying 'that IS interesting' from time to time, administering that well known cure-all WD40 and putting it back together again is an act of caring. And maybe there will be a response.
So that's what I did. With no bits left over or forgotten. And the drill is working again.
Magic.
