Corncockle.

Heard of it?....no me neither.   Admiring a neighbouring allotment's wildflower patch and a fellow allotment holder pointed out this little flower hiding amongst the  bigger varieties and said it was corncockle.  Had to look it up when I got home and this is what came up -  Corncockle, is a plant of cultivated cornfields. Evidence suggests that it was first brought to Britain from Europe by Iron Age farmers, some 2,400 years ago. It was never as common in farmer’s fields as poppies or corn marigold and is now exceptionally rare as a cornfield flower but can often be found in wildflower seed mixes.  Love to learn something new every day.
Camera Club Afternoon Garden Tea Party went off very nicely.  Weatherwise there was no drama at all despite the yellow warning but our Member who hosted the party had put up a large marquee on the extensive deck area and as predicted there was a light drizzle at 3 o'clock but nothing more than that.  Great to see a good number of Members - sorry but nobody took any photographs!  Glad I shot these in the morning.
