It's busy out there...

Another grey start, followed by warmth and hazy sunshine.
Bees, hoverflies and butterflies were out in force in the garden, as I caught up with some watering and some fruit picking.  Mulberries today, from the espalier-trained tree.  They tend to fall off as soon as they're ripe, so it can be a messy task. But one of my real summer favourites, purple-stained fingers and all.
Apart from that, I made a chocolate roulade... although this one hasn't really rolled up, so much as turned itself into a kind of tall sandwich. Perhaps more like chocolate Eton mess than chocolate roulade :-)
We'll take it round to Jack and Marianna's later, as we're having tea there together. Then Marianna and Frieda will be flying to Greece on Tuesday, we hope, to stay with M's parents. Jack will follow in 10 days' time.

I don't think I can write the words 'Eton mess' without thinking of the govt and its appalling record on the Covid period. That delicious pudding - cream, meringue, strawberries - really needs a new name. Let's reserve Eton Mess for the 2020-21 period, and hope that it will eventually be consigned to a bemused footnote in history books.
