An Alien Bee

Can anyone help me to identify this bee with the alien eyes please?  It was feeding on the lavender flowers alongside bumblebees and honey bees and was a little larger than a honey bee and much lighter in colouring.  I have had no success matching it to any of the illustrations in my Collins guide or the internet so far.  Rear view is in extras.

The final extra is a bumblebee that had been attacked and sucked dry on a lavender head possibly by a crab spider.  There is another insect or spider visible near to the bee's head but this is not necessarily the predator.
