I-5 Rock
We painted the I-5 rock in memory of my son Jim and his friend Braden.
Painting I-5 rock became a tradition in 1967 after that portion of the freeway was completed. There are thousands of layers of paint covering it expressing words of love, school reunions or just wondering thoughts or signs of their lives of those who are carefree enough to paint it.
From the back of the rock you can see that it is granite. It is thought to have come from British Columbia coast range when the continental glacier began to recede around 10,000 years ago.
