They don't make plastic bags like they used to...

...well they probably still do a fair bit - which is a bit of a worry.

Actually I have no issue with plastic per se - it's just the abundance and unnecessary usage of it that worries me.  Sometimes it's definitely the best thing for the job, but usually it's not.

Anyway, this Sainsbury's bag dates from 1987 at the latest - that's the year I left the UK having lived there for a few years.  The "Get a hole lot more out of life with a Life Saver" bag is about two years' younger (from the Royal Easter Show).
 
The Sainsbury's bag was planned to have a much shorter life than the trendy colourful one.  Sainsbury's is about the same condition as the day I got it, while other is starting to perish.  They've both been used about as much as each other (I did a lot of twin string kite flying in the 80s and 90s - more stuff to sort out!).

It's just too easy for us to do the wrong thing...
