Towering
I opened my eyes to find myself looking at something that made me question my sanity.
The tower seemed to dominate the sky. What was it?
Like something from Thunderbirds, it looked like an old-fashioned idea of the future - a space station designed by someone who'd never had to consider the realities of space.
It took me several long moments to realise I was looking at part of a motorway service station. But where? It wasn't obvious, and it occurred to me that I might be the first person to arrive at a motorway services without knowing where he was heading - or how he'd got there.
I laughed when I realised how easily I'd been disoriented - then stopped: partly because people were looking at me, partly because I had no idea how, or why, I'd arrived there.
That didn't seem like anything to laugh about.
Realising I was in the right place to find somewhere to sit and get a coffee, I headed in the direction of the tower.
