March of the pylons
I wonder whether there was as much objection to pylons being put up as there is to windfarms? (There's a cheeky windmill encroaching on this photo.)
Certainly they seem more invasive and, on the face of it, they aren't as pretty as windmlls. Plus, whilst people might talk about "flicker" from windmills and possible maladies - such as headaches and sleeplessness - from windfarms, there's something all the more alarming about the buzz from a pylon as you stand beneath it.
But I like them. I like looking at them stretched across the countryside with the cables slung beneath them. I wonder how, too, how much longer they will be with us?
