Wayland's Smithy
Lovely walk along the Ridgeway today including a stop at Wayland's Smithy. A Neolithic longbarrow believed to be home to Wayland the Norse god of metalworking.
Legend has it that if your horse loses his shoe, you can leave the horse & some money overnight & in the morning the money will be gone & your horse shod!
Lacking any horses we pressed on & finished the walk at the much neglected White Horse. Virtually invisible in long grass with weeds growing through the chalk. How sad. Hopefully post Covid it can be restored.
