Slight Simplicity

Dolls Combers - Simplelife ft. Charmaine

Sunday was a recovery day. Phone off, voluntary solitude and ex-communication from many things. It was "me" time. Instead of wasting it, it was filled with necessary self-improvement. Grocery shopping which included massive amounts of vegetables, fruits and meats, serious Japanese study, Japanese film watching (learnt a couple of useful phrases and vocabulary), playlist building, exercise and healthy mind activities.

My Japanese lesson today was stellar and it was good to see the look on my teacher's face when she noticed that I had pulled the finger out, so to speak, and made a conscious effort to improve. It's a little flag to mark a checkpoint in the right direction. The journey doesn't stop.

Making a conscious effort to also meet friends and have a seriously awesome conversation was great. I actually haven't had a "coffee" with someone in quite which involved simplistic one on one talking (no alcohol, no hangover, no pretension). Stellar. The simplicity of such things has that subtle grace easily ignored by the lights of the spectacle. The conversation was so motivating that immediately after I went to the bookstore to buy a book. A first in 3 years. Yes, please don't judge, but I'm not an avid reader and it's a little tricky to come-by English books physically in Japan. I bought Cloud Atlas and hungrily drank in the pages. There's a melodious flow lifting off the pages. Plus I'm a sucker for movie tie-ins. I'm a movie guy through and through.

My friend's birthday is tomorrow so I thought it best to do something decent and buy her dinner (well, most of it. She's not the type of person to accept a fully paid dinner so willingly). It was full of conversation and reminiscing of times with friends.

Now that positive actions are in place, it's time to repeat over and over. As my friend told me today, "It's all about the reps." An exercise to get stronger and stronger. Those small moments that you see someone bask in glory are the product of fortune and/or practice. You don't get strong overnight, you go over it again and again. The same can be said about negative behaviour that will eventually lead into a strong black hole.

I look forward to cooking breakfast tomorrow.
