The dropped stitch

Scented snipping

This rose has a wonderful scent and it's a joy to walk past it on a still summer evening.

The plant is growing wild in the hedge but every year I try to deadhead the dying blooms I can reach because as they die the flowers go mouldy and this affects other newly opening buds. It's not a job to be rushed because the stems are packed with thorns, but it's pleasant work surrounded by the perfume of dozens of roses.
