Meanwhile, at the coast..

STOP PRESS: History Week extended.....

.....but for a few days only, because I'm running out of material!!

So this is a copy of the Haltwhistle Echo (better known to the natives as 'The Squeak") from 1941, kept for an unknown reason. For years after we moved away my Nana used to post a copy every week to my Ma and Pa along with a copy of 'Bunty' for me, I loved the cut-out dressy-up dolls on the back cover.....I remember they came through the letterbox rolled up in a postal wrapper thingie, a sort of extended address label with instructions to 'lick here to secure' and 'cut here carefully' preprinted.....it usually arrived on a Saturday morning and was sometimes a bit the worse for wear and damp around the edges. BTW, my Ma assures me that 'The Cinema' advertising on the front page was actually 'The Gem' (just because that's where they always had an ad, I'll take her word for it because mothers ALWAYS know best...and she's a demon when she's roused!)

History Week (extended) #8

Dismal weather again at the coast (the sea sounds stormy from the doorstep and I'm trusting my ears/saving my feet)......think I'll bake bread....or cheese scones....or a lemon drizzle cake.....or all of the above......
